FOUR MONTHS FROM THE END OF DEMOCRACY

Where we are in this slow and painful loss of democracy

Republicans have placed trump cult people as candidates for election officials in 17 states. We know that trump’s coup failed because a handful of key election officials, Republicans pressured by trump to cheat, did the right thing and certified the votes of their citizens as cast. Republicans can’t have honest election officials, so they are working to make sure they have corrupt election officials in key seats for 2024.

These corrupt candidates are openly campaigning on the fact that they will ’throw’ the election to Republicans if the vote doesn’t go the way they want. This is how Putin does it. That is how Republicans do it now.

The first instance of an attempt to not certify election results they don’t like happened this week.

An election in New Mexico was overseen by an election board with three trumpers on it. The election did not go their way and initially they all refused to certify it. One of the three board members had to be in D.C. the day of scheduled certification because he was being sentenced for his role in January 6. He joined the board by Zoom and thankfully, someone talked some sense into the other two board members and they voted to certify, outnumbering his vote.

If they had not, this would have been a Constitutional crisis.

If normal, democracy-loving citizens do not vote in such large numbers that they overwhelm this upcoming midterm election with votes for Democrats FOUR MONTHS FROM NOW, our democracy is finished. CHECKMATE. The investigations into trump and the other criminals will close, the Republicans will spend the next two years preparing to cheat on the 2024 election in the same manner that Putin does, that Orban does, and will make sure that trump or his replacement (DeSantis is possible and much worse than trump) is ushered into office.

At that time, there will be nothing that good, decent democracy-loving people will be able to do. We will, as a democracy, either survive or fall in November.

If trump ever gets into office again, his rage will explode. That is how narcissistic sociopaths are when they are humiliated, which he is. It will happen fast and will shock the entire earth. The rapidity of the fall of democracy, worldwide, will be swift and stunning.
